I am often asked "What is your number one favourite holiday?" and it's a complex question to answer. Every destination offers something unique, making it nearly impossible to choose just one. But when pressed, my answer is always that a first-time African safari is the most life-changing travel experience one can have.

Or I can weave in a carefully chosen food tour, a lively market visit, a regional festival or an unforgettable Michelin-starred experience.

A big part of my heart will always belong in South Africa 🇿🇦❤️ I have just returned from an extended journey through Namibia and South Africa and I wanted to begin with one of the moments that touched my heart most. My biggest dream for this safari was wonderfully simple. I wanted to spend time with lion cubs 🦁 As the first golden light of an African sunrise spilled across the bush, the three cubs, barely two months old, peered cautiously through the grass before tumbling into view. Full of curiosity, character and promise, it was impossible not to wonder what lay ahead for them. Future kings and queens of Thornybush one day? They seemed far more interested in chasing invisible enemies through the grass and generally causing chaos before breakfast. These special sightings took place during my stay at Waterside at Royal Malewane in Thornybush Private Nature Reserve, the final stop of my journey and a fitting finale. After inspecting Malewane Lodge, Waterside, Farmstead and Masiya’s Camp, I came away understanding exactly why it is often described as the Harvard of the bush. The guiding is exceptional. The wildlife encounters unforgettable. The hospitality heartfelt. For those dreaming of a first luxury safari, South Africa remains my favourite all round choice. Extraordinary wildlife, world class lodges, superb food and wine and the ease of combining multiple destinations make it one of the most rewarding travel experiences anywhere in the world. I flew to Jamaica yesterday, virtually for now , but hopefully not for long 😄🤞🇯🇲✨ A sun warmed morning spent with Half Moon Resort, thanks to a wonderful hosted event by the Jamaica Tourist Board, was all it took for Jamaica to slip back onto my radar in the most irresistible way. Earth Day is a quiet reminder that how we travel matters. The African bush asks nothing, and somehow leaves us with everything that matters 🌍 I had something else in mind to share today, but as it is Earth Day, I could not resist taking us quietly back to Africa, and to the eleventh of 15 lodges I inspected on my November journey. Another Zambia chapter, this time in a softer, more intimate rhythm. Just upstream from the thunder of Victoria Falls, Sindabezi Island rests quietly in the Zambezi 🛶 Some of my favourite memories here unfolded so naturally. Carefully navigating past families of hippos on the boat ride to the island. The warm welcome from Towela and the team on the jetty, with smiles so wide they were impossible to forget 😄 And that inviting hammock, swaying in the breeze with the river stretched out beyond. Real connections like this remind me how much relationships matter. After 20 years in luxury travel, it is the strength of my contact network and trusted partnerships that so often makes the difference between a nice trip and one that feels truly special and memorable. When I return for my second honeymoon, I already have an iconic Sampan dinner floating on the Zambezi and a seasonal sandbar lunch set in the middle of the river very firmly in mind 😉🤞 Earth Day feels especially fitting here. The mighty Zambezi river writes its own rhythm, we simply learn to listen softly... A gentle return to Africa and to the 10th lodge of 15 inspected on my November journey. Set on a tranquil stretch of the Zambezi River, so close to Zimbabwe and equally close to Victoria Falls. Zambia felt softly spoken, grounded and unhurried, with a bold, earthy honesty. The quiet, gracious nature of the Zambian people leaves it’s own gentle warmth 🌿 After an extensive site inspection including the organic garden, Tongabezi Trust school and a river excursion on the first electric eDhow in the world, we settled on the river deck with expansive views for lunch at The Lookout, a beautiful garden to table seasonal lunch of Zambian flavours. 🧘♀️ I would like to invite you to #PauseWithWendy, for just a few moments, to close your eyes gently, breathe slowly and imagine… Timber and thatch villas resting quietly along the riverbank. In the soft light of the late afternoon African sun, women in traditional dress pass beneath the trees with woven baskets in hand, a fleeting glimpse of daily life that somehow says everything. A floating dining deck waits for an intimate supper as the light turns honeyed.
